On November 13th, Westbank and QuadReal, partners in the redevelopment of Oakridge Centre in Vancouver, Canada, hosted a launch event featuring Piero Lissoni, where he spoke about the firm’s design approach. The redevelopment of Oakridge — currently, a major retail centre that will be transformed into a 4.5 million-square-foot community of residential, retail, office, civic space, and at its core a nine-acre park — marks a watershed moment in 21st century city-building in Vancouver.
Lissoni did the interior design for the largest residential tower within the Oakridge complex: Building Four. Building Four has 305 residential units and 42 floors. Lissoni’s design approach for the lobby, the building amenities, the rooftop garden, and all the homes was entirely informed by the proximity and connectivity to the majestic beauty and singular topography of the Pacific Northwest – the dense forests, tree variations, and mountain tops visible on the horizon when the fog breaks. The stunning view that every home and public space in this building offers is the centrepiece around which Building Four is designed. While in Vancouver, Lissoni talked about Oakridge as a destination for both a convergence of cultures and the creation of community.
